"You Are the Deciding Factor for Your Quality of Life"

I was in a lot of pain before having my knee replaced. It hurt to sit, it hurt to stand, and it hurt to walk. I try to walk 2 miles a day and I couldn't even walk a city block.  I had to stop walking and riding my bike.

One statement my doctor made at one of my appointments, "you are the deciding factor for your quality of life," kept going through my head.  When I couldn't even walk a city block, my doctor and I knew something had to be done, so I moved forward with knee replacement surgery.

Life after knee replacement has been "refreshing".  I know there are things I can't do, but not having constant knee pain and being able to walk again without cringing or hearing the bone on bone tells me I did the right thing.

Don't second guess yourself if you are in pain and are at a point in your life where you can give up the things they tell you can't be done anymore (running, jumping, kneeling on your knee). Meet with your doctor!  You will wonder why you waited so long. Do your before surgery exercises and prepare your home as you are instructed. Listen to your physical therapist.  Does it hurt?  Yes, but in the end you will be so glad you worked through the pain.  I pushed myself so that I can have as normal of a life as possible, and that is why my knee bend is 137 degrees.  120 was my goal.  Remember.....you are the deciding factor for your quality of life!
