"Back to Normal"
Before joint replacement I wore a heavy duty knee brace, used crutches and was in constant pain. Life was miserable to say the least.
My turning point was when the knee joint pain became so severe it brought me to tears. I literally had lost all mobile capabilities. Getting around became a huge energy and emotional drain. After joint replacement my life has changed.
I feel back to 'normal' and am able to perform most adult activities like hiking, golf, and various exercise classes. I rarely experience any 'sensation of presence' in my DePuy Uni-Knee. Without these types of devices and the doctors involved in their development, my quality of life would certainly be different, and not in a good way.
It took me two years to fully recover from surgery (longer than most). I had some mobile bearing 'lock up' issues early on which created concern and discomfort. I was patient, listened to my physician, and gave the device time to break-in and sit correctly. My advise to others is to give sufficient time for rehab and recovery. I know I will heal at a different rate than others. I tried not to become discouraged. I built up self-confidence in my new joint. Once I developed trust in my new joint my recovery increased at a rapid pace.
